I just bought this from a friend. 232,000 miles with great service record. 2 days later there was a squeal under the hood. BF came out and opened hood and there were metal shavings and the AC pulley was not turning. Is this an easy fix?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Can we bypass the ac system while we wait for parts? How would we do that?

To by-pass the A/C you have to put an idler puller in place of the compressor so the belt will turn other components. UNLESS there is a separate belt for the A/C..I don't know on your car. If so, simply remove the belt. But if you do have to use an idler, the compressor has to come out and if it was working before will have to be re-charged, and you don't say what year so maybe also converted to R134a. The public can't buy R12 Freon anymore

The end of R12 Freon in cars was 1994. So you're good there.
