Can I pull out a 3 spd manual and put in a late model GM 5spd. I am concerned about Bell housing clutch Linkage etc. Just trying to raice my mileage with the overdrive

How late are you talking about? What yr is your bird first Gen or second? How much are you looking to pay? Plenty of companies will ship you a trans that will bolt right in.

You can also purchase an aftermarket overdrive unit that bolts to the back of the transmission.
