Can I put my 1997 Grand Prix engine in the body of 1999 Grand Prix?

are they the same size engine? theoretically it should work., but the wiring harness and fuel will be slightly different if the engines are not the same. also a note...are they both auto or manual, transmissions?
they'll both be auto you can swap a 3.1 with another 3.1 and same with the 3.8 but it won't work swapping to a different size because the wiring is totally different and tranny's are different
They are both automatics and 3800. So it sounds like we should be ok. Any other advice on what might be different. Thank you.
not necessarily different, but worth inspecting, if it supercharged or not. and the condition of the charger.....may I ask the reason for the swap?
My daughter wrecked her 1997 Grand Prix but engine is fine. Frame in the bent in back. We found a 1999 Grand Prix that has a bad engine but body is in good shape. So thought we'd swap.
if the rear was damaged, and not the front/side, go for it., (as the transmission would then be damaged), are the engine codes the same, (to be sure the wiring is identical), it should be the same, but I recommend to confirm it. if i can help you anymore message me, (are you located around New England)?
Hmmm not sure about the engine codes. We have a friend that is helping out.
all 3.8 l engines from 97-03 will be same as eachother. engine code doesn't matter aslong as it's just the engine and you keep the original wiring harness.
