Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Ok i need your help. I have a 98 sunfire i was
going down interstate and lost power. I was
able to get it to the side of the road. It cut off
and would not crank. When i got it home
there was a wire that had possibly ground
out, no idea what it goes to cant find where
to hook it back up. Moved the wire, car
starts but still doesn't run right. There was
no warning before it lost power, no lights
nothing.

Yep, the wire either got next to a hot source and melted exposing the wires which ended up touching ground, something metal, or the wire chaffed and did the same thing. The wire needs to be traced back and repaired. And so the wire goes somewhere, you have to find where it goes, start looking in the area you found the wire.

The wire still has the connector on it. I have spent hours looking and cant find where it goes. But thank you

No check engine lights no warning nothing .... This is the wire I'm trying to figure out what it goes to
If it's running now and that is unplugged and it's running choppy it will fire a engine code that's what you're looking for keep it running until it hits an engine code
Once it throws a code more than likely that's where that piece goes looks almost like a air idle control plug
Two places that I can tell that maybe that connector goes. Look at the Neutral Safety Switch, should be on top of the trany more toward the bell housing. A black box, flat, and there would be two different connectors, that one we're looking in the picture, and a bigger on along side of it. Otherwise I see a corner light that has a similar connector.
