What kind of Jeep? Most do not have a limited slip.
if it says quadradrive on your shifter or the back of your jeep then yes you have Vari-lock Limited slip differentials front and rear. But if it says quadratrack you don't.. But some quadratrack models with tow packages came with a limited slip in the rear... Just jack it up while in park, no parking brake and spin one of the wheels, if it fights you the more you spin it, its a hydra-lok, if the opposing wheel wheel spins the other direction, its open. Im an ASE certified tech, and Ive got 213k on my 4.7 limited and done all the repairs, glad to answer any questions you have. If you do have limited slip diffs, you have to use synthetic 75w-140 and Mopar brand only! limited slip additive. The stuff at auto zone says right on the bottle not for Quadra Drive Jeeps...
you mean Vari-lock differentials (we're not talking bout seizing cylinders ;) lol ) .. and most places will call the additive for the diff fluid a "slip Friction modifier" so if it says that it works too.
Its actually called hydra-lok in his year jeep. This is different than vari-lok which is a true clutch pack design, where as the hydra lok actually uses hydaulic pressure generate by a pump on the driver side of the differential to apply the clutches harder as more slip occurs. You cannot use any old friction modifier with the hydra lok, it has to be synthetic, because the clutch packs are synthetic, unlike almost every other limited slip diff that has organic clutches. Do some research before you act like you know what your talking about... I work on this shit every day smart ass
That language isn't necessary, and you're the one who is wrong. He's asking about his Grand Cherokee (a 1993) not his Cherokee (a 1999). Hydra Lok was used on 1999 Grand Cherokees. He's asking about the 1993, hence the posting on the Grand Cherokee page.
Ya sorry about that I was just trying to give a little expertise on the subject and got carried away with it. Just dont use Trans X friction modifier with a quadra drive
okay john, lets compare each others WJ's and see who has worked on them most.. You were right about them not being vari-lock tho.. and no andrew hydra lock was not used on 99-04 Grand cherokee's ( but i think you ment 99 cherokee).. no hard feelings.. i actually never looked at his page to see what year his was. I just assumed WJ.. my bad

lol good research, I didnt know Jeep called it a different name, but if you ever change the fluid on one, its a unique differential. You can hear the fluid pump work if you spin the wheels while the cover is off and see it work.

Sup anyone answer a couple things for my 1995 jeep grand cherockee laredo 4wd? I need to know if its dana 35 or 40 or 44 or? I cant find it anywhere and im sure its stock everything. I need to replace my full rear axle and drive shaft. Cause i heard its not good to drive with just front drive shaft.

I just bought a 1997 jeep grand cherokee v8 limited and I'm trying to figure out what differential is that. It doesn't look like the dana 35c or 44 they say it comes with this jeep.

I've got an o5 grand Cherokee with 8 bolt front differential how can I tell if it's a limited slip or not so that I get the correct CV axle?
