I have a 2008 Grand Cherokee 3.0l Diesel and I went through a deep puddle the other day and now my it tells me to service my 4wd.What caused this to happen and can it be fixed

You need to take it to a Dodge dealership and have the TCU checked. The TCU controls the transfer case engagement. There was a recall issued for just this problem. If they can't flash the TCU be prepared to fork out $700 for a new TCU.
