What does it mean when the transmission leaks pretty good?

The transmission leaks a lot and when I put in
reverse the car jumps hard and loud! What is this?

It means time to get it in for service, or kiss your transmission goodbye.

Thank you and does this have anything to do with the fact that it sometimes won't start up after I turn it off?

Anything from needing a tuneup to a bad fuel pump or other issue. Is the CEL on?
