I just bought a Honda Accord 2004 the abs and the brake lights or on , it looks like the car has fairly new rear pads , the front pads look very thin

Worn brake pads won't cause an ABS/Brake light, the most likely cause is a wheel speed sensor/abs sensor. Any garage/parts store should be able to pull the code and get you a better idea as to what might be causing it. Do you get any pre-mature abs activation?
I do not get any premature abs activation. Someone told me that only dealer can reset abs light!
Well that's bull. Only certain scan tools can communicate live with the abs but even that is something most garages would have. But as far as just reading the abs code goes pretty much any scan compatible with OBDII can do that.
mauto1 is correct in that most later model OBDII scanners can read all codes which would cause your check engine and ABS system light to come on. After the problem is corrected, the light may go off by itself or may need to be deleted from the computer memory. Here is a fairly good description of Honda ABS systems : http://www.aa1car.com/library/abs_honda.htm Your problem could be a leak down of pressure in the abs pressure accumulator, a defective pump, bad line, or any number of things, but that is why you need to get the codes read. Write down all codes found, in the exact order they show on the scanner. To repair, start with the first problem, then clear the codes and re-drive to see if any or all come back, then keep up the process or repair, clear, recheck. Or just bite the expensive bullet and have the system repaired at a garage. Please let us know how you make out.
