You rings are most likely no good, try this stuff, change your oil and replace two quarts of oil with two quarts of Lucas, the day you take the car in for inspection. It may or may not work but its cheaper then buying a new car or getting a ring job...

first go up 2 heat ranges on you spark plugs.... !!!
Oh Sh*t thanks Kelly I forgot about that...
Thank you all for your help. It was running rough when stopped at a stop light sounding like it was missing. Upon acceleration everything was fine. I was afraid it was going to die in the middle of an intersection so I took it to the mechanic the first time and we added new spark plugs and a fuel filter. Ran a bit better but still was missing at idle or in neutral. We have had an oil leak, not sure from where but we add Lucas Stop Leak and it seems it's a bit less. Yesterday we took it to the mechanic and he said showed us the new spark plug we just put in and said it was full of carbon. Then he put it on the Smog test scope to see if something else is going on and the numbers came back that said we have a "Gross Polluter" and should see about "retiring" it or pay $3000.00 for a rebuilt engine. The HC reading on Gas was 3476 and the limit is 110. I don't know how this could have happened because last year we passed the smog with no problem. Sorry to be so long winded but it is frustrating.
May want to try it one more time. you are going to have to do all this the night before your bring it in and don't drive the car only to the shop for its smog test...Run one can of seafoam in the engine...Go up 2 heat ranges on you spark plugs.... change your oil and replace two quarts of oil with two quarts of Lucas, Clean you throttle body with CRC.
its better then spending $3,000.00
