1988 Chevy G20 PS gearbox - Pitman seal

Asked by 88Beauville Apr 30, 2011 at 01:25 PM about the Chevrolet Chevy Van

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a leaking pitman seal on my steering gear. It started gradual but it definitely needs to be fixed now. The Haynes manual details how to change this without removing the box from the vehicle but doesn't have any seal specs.

I don't want to remove it until I have the replacement in hand.
If I had a seal# or ID/OD & depth I can buy a spec seal... or should I suck it up and pay dealer price for an OEM seal kit?

'88 G20 (Beauville), 305cid... +400,000km and running strong :)
