Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Right parking brake cable broke. I replaced it,but the pedal still goes to the floor & doesn't
apply brakes. Before the cable broke, the parking brake worked fine. Can there be a
problem in the pedal assembly. It is a 2008 express 1500 V6.

check the adjustments on the end of the cable, you probably have to much slack in the cable.

Make sure all the securing clips are preventing the outer sleeve of the cable from moving. It has to stay stable so that when you move the inner cable the outer sleeve does not move with it. If there are any looseness or slippage of the outer sleeve it will never work properly. It's like the cable assembly on a lawn mower gas throttle. the same principle applies. Good luck in finding the cause.

Checked for movement at the pedal assem. When pedal is pushed to the floor, there is very little cable movement.

If you have the old cable yet, and can pull out the new cable, check to see if the lengths are equal. On the pedal, is there an adjustment and is it clicked in properly? There is an adjustment on the cable assembly somewhere, check with a break mech to see if he will tell you how to adjust it. It just may be inside the wheel assembly where it is not connected.
