I have a 1997 4x4 Chevrolet Silverado that just quit on me while I was driving.
It will crank but it will not start. It acts like it is out of time but I have already
checked that and it isn't, any suggestions?

Well there's 3 things that starts a motor! you gotta have 1.Spark, 2. Fuel, 3. Power. When you turn your key to start it up what does it do? Check to see if your Fuel Pump is kicking on!
It cranks and the motor gets tight like it's in the timing
Just need to check for spark, and to see if there is fuel pressure. Fuel pressure should be 56 to 63 lbs. at the Schrader valve.
What will the truck do if the crankshaft sensor is bad?
You could have it scanned to see if there are any codes. First you need to know if there is spark and fuel pressure.
What is the fuel pressure? And then have it scanned for codes.
Will it just suddenly die and not start back if it's the crankshaft sensor?
I Agree with Rowefast, Scan for codes. Write them down that way its much easier to trouble shoot your problem!
