Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I get in and start my truck that runs just fine,i put it
in reverse and as im backing up all the sudden it
starts running like its only hitten on 4 cylinders.
Sometimes its a constant backfireing and
sometimes it doesnt backfire at all. Loss of power,
hard to start. Yet i can still drive it down the hwy @
75 mph. Its been parked now for a cpl weeks with
me only having moments after work to mess with
it. Ive always had a problem with it starting, only
occasionally tho it would start but instantly die i
could either put a rag soaked in gas where the air
filter is or i could wait 10 min and it would start just
fine.

see if the injectors are firing normally unless you have the TBI unit on top the motor then just see if those injectors are working ,, , test or replace ignition module , and if you can purge the fuel rail at the valve see what the gas looks like , check plugs , wires ,coils , I used to think parts (alt. fuel pumps ) ,would just quit but thats not always the case ,intermediate problems are the worst because the problem has to be tested when it occurs otherwise it'll test normal , a gas soaked rag is asking for problems get a soda bottle with a pin hole in the cap and squirt some gas in the throttle if you have to ,
