If I used a pass key, would that cause the van to completely shut down while driving? Or would
you have any clue why the van would shut down with no engine light on

The PASS-KEY security system is designed to not shut the car off while driving, rather to keep it from starting. Sounds like some sensor is acting up or a coil pack.

The "pass key" or "VALET KEY" is designed so that the vehicle can only be driven a certain distance before the vehicle shuts off to keep it from, or limit its possibility from being stolen. Get yourself a "regular key" and have it coded properly to the vehicle and your problem should go away.
