What is the top speed with the governor disabled?

Asked by David Nov 04, 2014 at 11:29 PM about the Dodge Daytona

Question type: Car Customization

I had an 90 Daytona ES with the 2.5l and the governor would kick at 120 mph which I cold hit in 4th gear.  I always wondered what the top speed would have been in 5th gear with the governor disabled.

The Shelby version is a bit different than the ES in some aspects , it would run up to 155ish and pretty solid around 145 on a smooth flat road before you got very light in the front end. On a road with bumps / hills, keep it around 125mph. If you have any weight over 50lbs in the rear hatch, you can get a nasty suprise around 100mph. You can catch air and scare the cap out of yourself. The 15" crab wheels placed the car lower to the ground than the 16" Shelby pumpers, so this also changes things.
