sounds like the lockup converter is not releasing making it like a stick shift in gear, one wire usually goes to the lockup solenoid energizing the solenoid to lock, try by disconnecting the wire

probably not, the converters have a lock to solid clutch to increase mileage works on 12 volts, almost useless anyway. I disabled a few in the past when they would sometimes not release at a stop light and stall the engine, by cutting the feed wire
