water leaking out of bell housing.

Three on each side and two on the back so yes it may seem to leak from bell housing.

No easy way to do this. The only way to do this is to remove the transmission or at least separate it from the engine enough to get out the old plug and install the new one. One thing that might help somewhat though is to buy an expandable freeze plug. But the bottom line is that where these are located there is just no easy way.

Actually most shops doing these will recommend a engine pull just because all will be accessible at the same time. Plus if one is leaking you will find out the others are not too far away from needing changed too. This will vary depending on if it froze up or if there is much corrosion in the block.
