After a few cranks on my 1988 dodge ram the truck just shuts down.when I start it back up the idle is high but levels out.generally it starts within 1-2 seconds. It won't run more than 5 - 10 minutes.

you probably need your carb rebuilt. it might just need a tune up though. does it feel like it wants to run but eventually bogs down and dies ? it could be your fuel filter. i would change that first before getting a tune up or carb rebuild

Yes it bogs down but really shuts down suddenly.but sometimes it recovers at near choking out and idles normal for 20 to30 seconds before shutting down completely.? Filter or carb.

like i said i would change the filter first because its cheaper. if that doesnt solve your problem youre either going to need a tune up because the timing is off, which it could very well be, or have the carb rebuilt
