Removing the thermostat will likely not help the overheating issue unless the thermostat is the problem. The root cause of the overheating needs to be determined. There are a number of possible causes. Radiator issues, water pump problems, bad thermostat, head gasket issues etc. Get it to a qualified mechanic and get it diagnosed. If removing the thermostat cures the overheating issue then it is very likely that the thermostat is defective. How many miles on the Van?
