why wont my 1997 dodge ram 1500 battery wont keep a charge?

I bought a new battery, had the alternator checked and replaced the battery cables.  I will
charge the battery and when driving around the battery guage drops, then within a few
minutes the truck dies.

Check you negative battery cable where it attaches to the frame and motor. If it's loose or dirty it will cause this issue.
