What year tranny will fit my 1985 dodge 318 auto 2 wheel drive

Actually, the only thing unique about the 727 Mopar, is that it was the early years for the lock-up only converter. 1 12 volt signal blue wire was attached outside the case, with all other remaining the same...in an LA bell housing style. So, Any LA Small block 727, with or without lock-up converter, will work...mileage would suffer without the lock-up converter; however, many reman converter rebuilders offer a "dummy converter"...A converter that would fit that transmission (your original lock-up 727) to eliminate the shudder so many have with a weak front pump, and early lock-up when hot. Those transmissions are pretty cheap to overhaul, and also pretty reasonable already built.
