Is there a 396 enjine that needs 6 quarts of oil? When filling enjine with 5 quarts of oil it still shows 1 quarts low on dip stick,

It is possible that someone changed the stock oil pan to a 6 quart pan, especially if they were planning on racing it. I don't know if there was a big block that came stock that way as I have always used small blocks, you could google it. It is also possible that the tube that holds the oil dipstick is not all the way in the block and making it appear to be low.

The answer is no. The only way it would hold 6 quarts is if it has an aftermarket oilpan that holds 6

I replaced my stock pan with one from summit racing, and my chevelle now holds 6 days.only differences is side's of the pan are straight and not stamped.
