454 and engine oil type?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a 71 Chevelle with a 454. I am uncertain how many miles it has on it
as the previous owner only had for about 5 months. The engine may be 1-3
years old. It definitely is time for an oil change. I have seen tons of opinions
and am leaning towards Mobil 1 Synthetic 10-40. Thoughts on this versus
conventional oil or other synthetics? I only drive her in nice weather, maybe
30 minutes max on a weekend day.

I would try 10W40 conventional or synthetic blend oil and watch the oil consumption. You could also try 5W30 and see how it does.
