Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm looking at a 98 1500 4wd that the rear end seems to be going out on,  but have a 92 1500 that's on it's last legs,  but has a good rear end in it.  Was wondering if I could interchange them?

Number one is the 2 wheel drive is a 5 lug, where as the 4x4 is a 6 lug. Gear ratios would have to match also in order for the 4x4 drive to work properly.

I had an 88 chevy pickup and replaced the rear end with one from a 98 chevy silverado, it bolted right up, the difference is the gear ratio.

I have to agree with rowe fast, on the 4 wheel drive, for it to work properly the gear ratio has to match or you risk burning out your 4wd. My 2wd was an exception, i was just swapping to a better gear ratio.
