Comtemplating purchase

Asked by Puskas Dec 01, 2008 at 10:54 AM about the Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Thinking of purchasing a used 2003-05 E320 4-Matic wagon and wondering on servising costs like at what mileage are the minor and major services?  What are the average costs for those services?  When do things like cambelts/chains, water pumps, etc need to be replaced?  What are the cost of consumables like filters, headlights, etc?  (reason I ask is that a low beam bulb for my 03 Passat is $350 each)

And any other advice/suggestions?

Lastly, would you go with the E500 or E320 and would the E500 be that much more expensive to run?

High repair costs go hand in hand with luxury vehicles. the major thing to consider when purchasing any kind of lux vehicle is wthere or not you have a good mechanic. if you service the vehicle with taffel motors you will get rapped everytime you take it in for service. Parts will also be higher on this vehicle becuse it is an older body style and they change the engine and tranny in the class already. If you have a good mechanci who can inspect it before you purchase it and will not rip you off everytime you service it then go for it. if not be weary! just my 2 cents :)!! hope that helped ya
