My personal experience with my 97 Avalon was that the car turns over but it wouldn't start. I suspected the fuel pump because I didn't hear any noise from it during the pre-start sequence. After some troubleshooting I found the 120 amp main fuse blown and the EFI 15 amp fuse blown. After replacing them it all worked just fine.
What caused those fuses to blow in the first place what they ordinarily blow? And why? My guess is you recently had your car jumped once or twice. Or one of those unregulated starter packs. But if those fuses are blown you're not even going to get cranking little old engine starting. You said you had cranking but no start but that wouldn't be those fuses.
