What extra charges do dealers add when buying a car? Other than tax and title,
what is negotiable?

Dealer fees are a money grab on a used vehicle. I always try to beat them up on it. Sales tax, title transfer, and registration fees are not negotiable. But the rest of the Dealer fees are. They want to charge you for detailing the vehicle, and possibly fixing very minor imperfections. Things like that. It never hurts to haggle. I always do! Hope that helps! Jim

They will charge you for air in the tires if you let them. Undercoating, paint sealant and all sorts of mostly useless and grossly over priced stuff. Just Say Hell No!

All dealers have one, the charge is meant to cover the cost of office personnel doing the paperwork after the sale of a new or used car. Most dealerships charge anywhere from $50 to $500 and the fee is normally not brought to your attention until right before you sign the paperwork for your vehicle. As I said, a money grab! Even at $100 per hour that would mean it takes up to 5 hours to do the paperwork for a sale? Yeah right!! Jim
