2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Battery Light on.

While driving vehicle the battery light came on. When I turned off engine it would not restart. I could smell something related to electrical when I opened the hood. Jump started vehicle after jumper cables were attached for about 20 minutes. Drove car and light did not come back on. Alternator problem?

if it wasn't the alternator it's possible it is now plus whatever was the problem in the first place. Jumping a car with a dead battery can cause the internal voltage regulator inside the alternator to overheat and burn up as it is trying to run the car and charge the battery together requiring more amps than designed to handle.
