When potentially buying from a private person the first question should be why are you selling this vehicle. You should ask for the vehicle identification number (VIN) so you can get a vehicle history report such as Carfax. You should also ask to see repair and maintenance receipts. You should ask if they own the vehicle free and clear and ask to see the title and the seller's driver's license. Be sure the person selling the vehicle is the owner. Ask if you can have your favorite mechanic check the vehicle out before you decide to buy it, at your expense. Ask if the vehicle is due for any maintenance now and if there's any problems with the vehicle. Any problems should show up when your mechanic looks at it but by asking you can gauge the seller's honesty. Jim

I totally agree with the above statement. When you find something, then do research on the vehicle just to make sure it is something you really want. Stay away from anything European, they are money pits, everything is costly these days but those are the worst.

Take a look underneath for rust at suspension points , Used cars are a gamble , if you're not any kind of mechanic you may spend as much on maintenance at a garage as a newer car . good ones are honda & toyota
