overheat

Ok so I drive a 95 chevy pick up... and today I was
driving and I noticed my heater  was blowing ice
cold  abs my was over heating so I pulled over and
just as I was stopping It lost power and the
steering wheel and brake stiffen up I let it sit and
cool down and charged my battery and it turned
over perfect but it still blows cold air out the heater
and overheat ...any suggestions?  I was told it
might be the thermostat  since it's old 1995

Well first you need to check the coolant level and see if there are any leaks. Yes the thermostat can be stuck in a closed position and would be wise to change. But the coolant loss went somewhere.
