Tyre sidewall damage

Asked by Guru956PW9 Jan 17, 2021 at 05:52 AM

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car tyre got damaged on the side wall with rubber peel
off as shown in pictures. Should the tyre be replaced
with a new one or there is a low cost option? Also,
looking at the depth of cut, the steel plies are not yet
visible, do we see this as a risk while driving at average
speed of 70-80kmph over long journeys?

The flap is not really the concern, but the huge slice and or cut into the sidewall. I'm sure if you open it up, you would see the cording. Plus the tire looks worn and almost ready to replace anyhow. Personally I would replace it. Have a local tire shop look at it, they will tell you the same thing.

If you can see the tire cord, replace the tire. Yes, it IS that simple.

Do you have road hazard coverage for your tires?
