Crosstrek valet key question

Question type: General

I picked up a new 2014 Crosstrek today, was given a valet key with the regular keys.  However, the valet key seems/looks virtually identical to the regular key, only difference I've found so far is it sets off the alarm if used to unlock the door.  It locks and unlocks the glovebox just fine, which is what I though a valet key was NOT supposed to be able to do?
