Crosstrek Valet Key sounds alarm when unlocking the car?

I use my valet car for the Crosstrek when I go to paddle.  Salt water would fry
the power key.  When I unlock the car, the alarm sounds.  The alarm activates
approx. 1-2 minutes after locking the car and the alarm of course can be
disabled by inserting the key in the ignition.  How do I lock the car with the
valet key in such a way that the alarm does not sound when I open it.  HELP!

Read your owners manual for limitations on the use of the valet key. Maybe you need to lock the regular key inside the car and just use the valet key to open the doors.

For many years I simply left the powered fob over a tire, carrying NO key. NEVER a problem. In previous Subies, at least, the "key" is that if the car is locked manually it can be unlocked manually (valet key or from inside) without alarm awakening. But your '17 is from the new Lafayette "world" platform? Who knows what those Indianians are up to....

Note that I referred to long paddling day-trips off Gloucester and Salem...NOT multi-day excursions where I'd hide the fob more securely.
