Best method to hill-start a manual car
Evening!
I recently passed my driving test and love my car, so I want to keep it in the
best condition possible. I am wondering what is the best method to hill-
start the car?
I was taught: foot on the brake, bring the clutch to the bite and then release
the brake to start applying gas. However, this was in my instructor's car
and my own car sometimes stalls, or if not, feels like it is about to stall using
this method. When there was no cars behind me one time I tried being
quick enough to release the brake, give it gas and then bring the clutch up,
but I feel like I rolled back too far to use that method in traffic.
Should my car stall/feel bogged down when I use the method I was taught
with the foot-brake? It stalled even before I had lifted my foot off the brake.
Right now I am using the handbrake method with the gas before the clutch,
or if I'm only stopped for a few seconds I use the balancing method (I know
this is bad for prolonged periods).
What are your guys opinions on this? I preferred using the method I was
taught because it felt more natural in traffic.
Car is a VW Polo 1.4 6n2 by the way.
