what makes the oil indicator blink?

You don't say what model or year Toyota..Corolla, Camry, Avalon, the list is long, but on my Corolla if the oil is low in QUANTITY, meaning just needs a quart or 2 the light will come on. OR, oil pressure is low, start by simply checking your oil
If it looks like an oil can, like an old fashion pump can with a drip of oil at the spout, that is the indicator of low oil. If it looks like a little engine, that is a more serious thing, there are two. One will say 'check' with that icon, that is a service reminder or a fault detected in engine somewhere. If it is a red engine symbol without the word "check" immediately have your car looked at by a mechanic...you don't say what year, if under warranty go to the dealer. If not, a reputable shop can diagnose it at 1/2 the cost. Goof Luck. Hope it's not serious
A red blinking indicator is never good. Pull over, shut the engine off and figure it out. --- Yellow indicators = warning. Red indicators = important warning. Red blinking indicators = stop the engine soon, you're doing damage.
Superior answer~~ true. I should have said that. Thanks TS for adding and elaborating. I only said have it immediately looked at, not stop the engine, then do that.
Good morning and you're welcome. The only good blinking indicator is the turn signal.
Low oil pressure or a bad switch

My car is a Toyota corolla 2007 model. When I drive at 120 kms upwards, it reflects "low oil pressure". What should be the main cause
Just saw this forum. I have a 2005 Rav4. My oil light started blinking rapidly on and off and then stayed on for about 15 minutes until I got to work. Poured in 1 quart of Valvoline 5W30 before I left work and it began to blink rapidly again and then stayed on for 15 minutes until I got home. No oil near the cap, and no oil leakage under the car. last time the oil light was acting funny was because the starter was bad. There's enough oil in the engine. I'm a little confused as to what the issue is. I do live in the Virgin Islands and have continuous hot weather. Is the oil the issue? Should I used a thicker oil? At this point I'm just looking for suggestions before taking it to a mechanic. Thank you in advance for any input.
