Your mechanic is probably telling you the truth. If the tensioner on the timing belt failed it will jump time, possibly jump several notches and that is just as bad as the belt breaking. In an interference engine that will destroy the top end and possibly damage pistons also. But the cost in Zimbabwe I have no clue
Psitons were not damaged,so should i get a new engine like wat the mechanic is telling me
Apparently the belt did not break
If the pistons are not damaged all you need is a "top end" have the heads and valves done and you do not need an completely new engine, just put on a new timing belt and tensioner too.
It does not matter if the belt broke, a failed tensioner is the same result, the belt is not turning the cam, it is not tight enough without the tensioner to turn the camshaft, resulting in the same damage
The biggest problem nw i am facing is getting new exhaust valves, everything else i hve got hence the mechanic was suggesting we get new engine
Can you order them from here in the US? They are available here and I see no reason they would not ship to Zimbabwe, you will just have to pay the shipping
if they are there i could order them from there.the engine is written Beams Dual VVTi.chassis number SXE10.Engine car serial number starts with 3S.do you happen to know what engine it is given that information
Okay. BEAMS - an acronym which stands for Breakthrough Engine with Advanced Mechanism System. It is the "S" series of Toyota engines with 1.8L to 2.2L engines
The 3S is a 2.0 L inline-four engine. Now we are getting somewhere
Four cylinders in a straight in a row. In a line. This is a inline 4
Other engines are 'V" type, the cylinders are in a V shape like this
Yes.thsnx so much for the help.nw i need the exhaust valves
Oh was impressed with the conversation. I have the same problem with my car - a BEAMS 2000 too. I have been looking for the valves to no avail. I am in Zimbabwe and I desperately need this sorted out. if anyone can tell me the cost of the valves and how I can possible get them as soon as possible. my email is smagadzire@oldmutual.co.zw Contact details +263772 513 355/ +263782 706 774
