wont start

What do you mean by "it sounds like the starter tries to engage?" Does the engine turn over but not fire up or is it not turning over at all. If it's not turning over at all then it's the starter. If not then you need to determine the answers to two questions. 1) Is it getting spark? or 2) Is it getting fuel? once you have those two questions answered you can start narrowing down possibilities. that's if the engine is turning over at all. I need to know that first before I can help you any further.

ok well how hard is it to change out the starter? and what about the gas after 2 years bad? how do i tell?

starter is a piece of cake to change. did it on my 87 iroc once in under 30 minutes. gas is no good thats for sure. how much is in the fuel tank? it should still be good enough to get the car started but not good enough to have the car run well. maybe try dumping a small amount of fuel into the engine jsut to get it to fire and turn over. did that on my 87 iroc after i did an engine swap once also. took about 4-5 attempts at dumping a small amount of fuel into the carb but it eventually started running. ran rough for a bit. but evened out just fine. i would also look at replacing the plugs. sitting for 2 years isnt helping them any. plus an oil change is in store. new oil, new plugs, new gas, new battery and it should fire right up. cant think of any reason why it wouldnt. if the starter was fine when it was parked it should still be fine.

ok got it ti start butt now its the fuel pump that is shot.. i poured a lil feul in it and she started right up.. butt is there a simple way to drop the tank to change the pump? and what about the ecxaust... or the heat shield....????not sure how to with out dropping evevrything...

Ok if i recall right you don't have to drop the exhaust to drop the fuel tank but you DO have to drop the rear axle. I've heard of ppl being able to get around that but it would be extremely hard that way.

i heard of people cutting access areas for getting at the fuel pump. make sure u know where it is first. and what is in that area.

any tip on where its located?

sorry man i never dealt with the fuel pump before. i cant be any help in that area. is there a possability though that maybe the fuel lines are empty from sitting so long though? how many times did you do the gas in the carb thing? it took my 4-5 times of trying it to get it to work. might need to create a vacuum and suck some gas back up into the fuel lines and engine. fuel pump might be ok. this is just a guess though...

try checking the started cylinoid if you turn the key and all you here is a click and the battery is good thats what it could be..or a loose or bad ground somewhere in the car..if all else fails take the starter in to your parts store and have it checked

before you change that pump try changing your fuel pump relay ...there is 2 stages to your pump...prime stage and continuous stage your primary stage might be burnt giving the impression your pump is shot

to change the fuel pump,you will have to drop the tank,and since it has been setting for 2 years,i assume with gas in it,the inside of tank is probley gumed up and will need cleaning out or replace the tank.and yes the rearend will have to be droped to remove tank,not a easy job.if you have never done this type of work,have a shop do it,it is a very dangrous job to do,but if you do deside to try to do it yourself first thing you want to do is UNHOOK THE BATTERY.

before you do anything check for power to the pump mines a tpi so the harneses may be diff but inside the drivers side kicker panel there are too plugs, each with 10 wires or so one of the plugs should have a brown wire... it will be the only brown wire check power to that or crawl under the car right in front of the rear wheels and look straight up the front of the tank, there will be a plug mounted on the floor tucked up in the centher in front of tank. it will have 3 wires not sure witch one is power but check all 3. then go from there, my car had a hole cut in the floor from a previous owner that origonaly ticked me off, but when it came time for me to change the pump my self it was a only 5 min job alot easier than dropin the axle but it makes me sick too have a hole in my floor

my answer is ive done every bit of that cut access to fuel pump its new .new injectors. new starter new gas in the tank. and nothing new fusses. i turn the key nothing the oil pressure gauge move up and loght come on the dash. starter want do anything i still cant figure it out
