the 305 small block also has a tuned port induction system, best way to find out is to measure throttle bore on throttle body, its smaller on 305
If you do research basic info says there were NO 350 IROC's in 1986. I did find in a couple places that there were 50 350 IROC's made for 86 but I dont believe they were for public sale. Of those 50 350 IROC's ZERO were T-Top cars. That would make your car not a true 350 car. a true 350 car will have an "8" in the 8th digit position of the VIN, it will have 4 wheel Disc Brakes, It will have an external oil cooler, It will have RPO code "L98", & a 700R4 4 spd auto trans. Thats just to name a few identifying marks of a 350 car
agree with tom and ttops wasnt an option with the 350 motors but it was with the 305s pay attention to detail earlier irocs decals were lager and on front bottom of door later one got smaller and moved to the back of the doors
T-Tops was an option w/ the 350 (5.7L) IROC's in 87-89 not sure about 90. IROC production was the lowest that year w/ total IROC production at 5507, 4213 Coupe's & 1294 Convertible's for 1990. A True IROC will have RPO code B4Z = IROC Package.
Just checked here: http://kliers.net/camaro/specs.htm And it states the 350 was available in a 1990 IROC, & it also shows the 350 available on the 1986 IROC but only 50 of them.
not with the 86 model year for ttops option with 350
FYI on your question, In 1986, the IROC received slightly different engine packages. The 86 IROC is the armpit of the entire run. The 305 block in 1986 now had a one piece rear main seal. The TPI 305 was the lucky recipient of the LG4 camshaft, and the result was a drop of 25 horses and almost a half second longer run to 60mph. Chevrolet did allow 50 IROCs out the door with the 220HP L98 350 TPI, but word has it, it wasn’t for production release. Beware when somebody sells an 86 IROC-Z with a stock 350 TPI engine. CHECK THE VIN for accuracy. Chevy also let an undisclosed number of these cars out with the T5 (5-speed transmission) as part of the 1LE racing option that also included air conditioning delete, radio delete, as well as the deletion of all power accessories. The 1LE option was not available with T- tops, but did come with specially calibrated springs, shocks and sway bars. Visually, not too much changed on the 86 IROC. The government mandated 3rd brake light found its way to the top of the rear hatch near the roof line. Curiously, rear window louvers became a factory option this year. Some of the 86 IROCS came with the new 140mph speedometer. 86 was also the first year for the base coat/clear coat paint system as standard equipment. Should sum it up, note the first guy whom answer is correct upon stating the rpo codes, I have a true 350tpi orignal 1986 and he's mines legit, they are vary vary rare, thanks and hope this helps , God bless
I am devastated. My iroc which is a 1986 model with the light on the hatchback caught fire after I drove it around block. I have had it since 1989 Its the real thing. I heard it backfire while driving then after pulling metal garage car filled smoke. I thought it from bad muffler that mechanic said didn't need fixing as bad as a throttle position sensor because car idling too fast. They were working other peoples cars who needed them work and putting mine off because it an antique and am disabled. The fire started back rear drivers side melting the fiberglass bumper Next to losing my parents this worst thing happen me. All glass destroyed along interior as well. Fire didn't get engine. A firemen said he thought car backfiring cause the fire. It has devastated me. Am 61 and disabled and my son lives with me. Between the 2 of us we don't have much live on. My son works doesn't make much and I only get disability. I am a woman and am very close to that car a lot memories. I been crying and playing the song the way we were. Can anyone help me I want to bring my car back to life. I am very sentimental and this is killing me
I have a true 1986 iroc z with the 350 tpi with t tops it has the B4Z rpo code. It is rare because no parts stores find a 1986 with the 350. But I have checked numbers and vin. It's the real deal.
I have been a mechanic and service manager for GM. I bought a 86 IROC that was recalled because of a mistake in the catalytic converters. We change the converter as per GM. We had to add a verification to the door. The dealership and GM put the customer in another IROC of their choice. I drove the car for about 50k and decided to give it a turn up. I ordered the parts through our parts department using the vin. When they came in they were wrong. We had to order parts for a 350 CID in order to get the right parts. I bought this car with 7550 miles on it. I had all of the service records from delivery to in service date. The strange thing is the numbers behind the alt make no sense. They don't match the vin at all. I did some research but nothing was conclusive. I don't have the car now,but I wish I did!
How do I find out if the engine I have is a true 86 IROC 350? I know people say by the VIN but who do I go too? Seems like millennials work at most these places now days and if the computers don’t give them an answer right away then they just say they don’t know.
I also own a 1986 IROC Z with a 350 ,, no idea how it it got there , but it’s a 350 , and the real mystery is,, the VIN shows it as an F engine which is a 305 ♂️
