Engine interference due timing belt broke.do we need the change the engine?

I have 2009 Lexus model GX470.The timing belt broke. The mechanic says we
have to replace the engine due to interference motor..
1.Is he right?
2.Can we install new belt and fix timing, then will it we OK?

You would have to remove the heads at a minimum to assess the damage. You probably have bent valves and possibly damaged pistons.
