My Lexus IS 250 F Sport has worn out front tires due to an alignment issue. The back still have excellent tread. Can I replace just the front as the back are a different size?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The front tires are 225/40/18.  The rear are 255/35/18.
Since they are a different size from the factory, how would the transmission know if the front were new and the back were not?  With the tread currently worn out on the front tires and the back tires still in good condition, wouldn't it be causing issues now?

I would replace the fronts and not worry about it. Since the rear tires have good tread you will be getting the car back to where it should be.

I ran your tire sizes through a tire calculator and those two sizes are within 0.4% in diameter.

Thank you. If they are that close in diameter, I will lean towards replacing all 4.

I would read your owners manual. Most AWD cars are very picky about tire wear.
