About how much time do I have before I absolutely have to relplace the rear main seal on a 2005 Lexus RX 330?

I learned a couple weeks ago during
a routine oil change that my rear
main seal needs replacing. The
service rep said on a scale of 1 to 5
with 5 being the worst, my rear main
seal is at 3.  How long did it take to
get from 1 to 3...did they not notice it
a few months ago at my last oil
change?  Ultimately, how long will it
take to get to 5?  I drive about 35
miles each week day, with about half
of that is on the interstate.  Vehicle
has approximately 147K miles and a
set of new tires 5 months ago.  New
front brakes a couple weeks ago
(during routine oil change). And new
rear brakes April 2013.

Who knows? If you can keep your eye on the oil and record the amount you use you can then decide when the cost of replacing the the oil that is being used to the price of replacing the seal. Or you could do it now.
