is it foolish to buy a used 2010 car from the New York with the rust issues and hard driving conditions?

Asked by huddlepl Aug 26, 2013 at 06:01 PM about the 2010 Lexus RX 350 AWD

Question type: General

Looking at purchasing a car, 2010 Lexus RX 350, which was owned by one owner, leased,
in New York and has 43000 miles on it.  Is it worth taking the car seriously if I don't see
other issues with it, or should I just wait and look for a car that has been operated in
milder climates.

First of all, are you talking about a car owned & driven in NYC (i.e. Brooklyn) or NY State (i.e. Syracuse)?? Having spent some time driving in and around NYC, a lot of cars seem to take abuse from the daily rigors of big city traffic (one big reason why a lot of New Yorkers don't even own cars...very high insurance is another reason). Cars in areas like Buffalo or Syracuse may have seen a lot of extended time in snowy/salt covered roads. I'd suggest shopping in the burbs across the Hudson River and check out Dealers in Northern or Central NJ instead.

I wasn't sure if you meant the car has rust on it NOW or you were concerned that it might develop rust in the future (again, assuming an area like Buffalo, NY that regularly gets bombarded with heavy snow and road salt every winter). Either way, like Js08016 said (If that's your zip code BTW, Js...we're practically neighbors..lol) definitely pass on this car for all of the reasons he stated. Good Luck finding one in better condition!

Hey Jim...Good to see someone on here from the Southern tip of the state. I'm not from here though (originally from NYC Metro area, then PA)....Actually, hoping to move back to suburban NE area of PA, near my parents (only thing stopping me is a fiance who has family ties here...argghh!). It is nice that gas is cheaper here vs. PA though...
