Headlights project shapes in field of vision or shade & block vision

Asked by TruthCrusader Mar 09, 2013 at 12:57 AM about the 2009 Lexus RX 350 AWD

Question type: General

Bought today 2009 Lexus RX 350.  With the bright headlights on when you look out  the windshield, it  looks like the top half of your windshield is lightly tinted.  You can see a definite line where it starts.  .  Also the headlight beams converge in noticeable patterns on whatever they're shining on.  That's bad enough.  When you put the low beams on, it looks like someone put a very dark window tint to the up of your windshield.  It is extremely noticeable.  So dark, you feel you have to try look below it to see out.  The darkness makes it hard to see anything further than a few feet in front of you.  What's the deal w/this?  I've heard there's some sort of shield because the lights are so bright, but this makes it very difficult to see.  Is there a way to replace these w/different headlights?

That's extremely odd...are your sure those are the OEM headlights in there to begin with?? Otherwise, Lexus is doing some very crazy things with their HID headlights. Since you just bought it today (or yesterday)...bring it back to the Dealer and voice your concerns.

Definitely take it back to the dealer and have them take a look. I have a Lexus IS 350C and notice that the headlights do have a distinctive light pattern. Most HID lights have some sort of light throw pattern. Normally you wil see a sharp drop off of light on the drivers side so you don't blind oncoming drivers. The passenger side will shine more light to the side of the vehicle to see the side of the road. I'm not sure what to think about the tint you're talking about. Maybe the previous owner had tint added to the top of the windshield?

I have the same issue with our 2015 Nissan Murano. It's as if there is something blocking the headlight beam, because there is such a distinct line across the viewing area. This is with the dim lights, not the brights. It's very annoying. Can it be fixed or changed?
