I was told by a local auto repair company that Lexus informed them that the oil level on the stick has been changed for the 2009 lexus RX350?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Last week I had the oil and filter changed on my 2009 RX350 v6 Lexus.
When I checked the oil level on the stick, I found that the oil level showed to
be in the middle of the oil stick. I took our RX back to the shop and the
manager said that Lexus had informed all dealers and shops that if filled to
the "full" mark, the engine would be overfilled. They were told that full is
actually at the middle of the fill mark for all of their and Toyota's V6
engines. He added oil and told me to check this out with Lexus. So I'm
writing Lexus and Toyota owners to see if they have been told the same
thing.
Thanks,
Bill

I would go with what they told you. Even if they are wrong it won't hurt your engine to run it 1/2 quart low.

What troubles me is that I've not been able to verify with by speaking with the Lexus or Toyota dealers in my area. The company that changed our oil added a quart to the crankcase. It's unfortunate that the documentation for such an important fluid is left undocumented. I have higher expectations for Toyota!

Subaru says to the check oil level after the car has sat for 5 minutes. If you let it sit for a long time the oil can show as over filled. Maybe Toyota has a similar rule.
