Which car to keep RX 350 vs E300

Asked by Sulaimaan Jul 04, 2018 at 11:59 PM about the 2008 Lexus RX 350 AWD

Question type: General

My family is trying to decide between keeping two cars, and while both cars
have been maintained by the same mechanic, pretty much everything done on
time and properly. I'm curious as to which is the safer option to avoid
expensive repairs and generally last longer.
1st car is a base model (no gps) 2008 Lexus RX 350 AWD, 131k kilometers, no
major repairs. Had some issues with the tailgate but those have asically been
fixed.
2nd one is a 2008 Mercedes E300, 176k kilometers, also no major repairs. Had
some minor electrical issues with trunk, but also fixed.

I know they're drastically different cars, but would love to get some opinions
on which car makes more sense to keep

I would keep the Lexus. Generally speaking, your maintenance costs will be cheaper in the long haul. And, you'll likely find it to be more versatile.

Obviously an SUV is more versatile than a sedan, and the Lexus also has AWD. You can add an nice in dash OEM looking aftermarket GPS navigation system with tons of user friendly features for under $500.00 USD. That being said the E-class Mercedes' are generally made to last longer, as are most Mercedes vehicles, as can be attested to in their use as Taxi's worldwide. The Lexus will have expensive maintenance items such as Timing belt changes, that are NOT required on the Mercedes.

I personally strongly advise to keep the Lexus, first for the longevity on the vehicle and lot less expensive to maintain. I have seen those rx350 going going over 250k Not as much for the Mercedes. Good luck
