Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My '81 has high idle speed and will not kick down. Choke light stays on dash.
1200-1800rpm range. Thank you.

Its not the idle. You choke is sticking and keeping you at a fast idle. Yes you can adjust idle speed, but that will only act as a crutch to your problem. Repair or disable the choke.
No, do not disable the choke, you will have hard start problems and the air fuel ration will be out of sinc. These are the first computer control carbs for the Corvette. Either have it rebuilt by a shop that knows the style of carb or buy a new /rebuilt from any Corvette parts supplier like Corvette Central, Ecklers, etc.
YO TCXD40; HADN'T MANUFACTURERS STARTED THAT ADJUST & SEAL THE SET SCREWS BULL ABOUT THAT TIME??
Yes the mixture screws are covered in a steel cap that was cast into the base so to speak. Special tool required ti drill the area around the cap and remove so they can be adjusted.

Thx guys...all helpful hints...found that elect. choke was still ok, but insufficent voltage preventing activation. Sorted out the voltage issue and she now idles at 600rpm...nice work.
Glad to know she's running again....
