how do i replace the ignition switch on my 1987 corvette?

i have been doing all my own work, i replaced the starter.
so i go to start it its fine i drive it, its great. leave it for a day go to start it "not a
sound" next day , starts!

If you haven't already bypassed the security system, the cars anti theft device, That's probably your problem. Me and my son just got a 86 and it's already tripped on us, from around 84 to 89 they all do it! If you look it up you'll see what I mean. The kits to do it are only like $60, and it's pretty easy to put in yourself. Good luck, hope I helped!
