I have a 1989 vette with the Bose system with a seperate amp for each speaker.I replaced the rear speakers with 6X9 speakers and now have no sound to the rear

Asked by 27ellishobbs Dec 30, 2013 at 04:09 PM about the 1989 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe RWD

Question type: Car Customization

I removed the rear amps and connected the left side yellow Pos and brown Neg wires to the speaker and the right dark blue Pos and light blue neg wires to the speaker but still not sound. I did replace the orginal Bose radio with a Pioneer CD stereo and was told this was all I had to do to make the stereo sound great. My frond door speakers still have the original speakers & amps and they work

The most reliable way to repair this is to remove the speaker ass'y and then the PC board from that unit. There are a number of companies out there like Dr. Don's that will repair the PC board like new for $99. I believe that you have to have a working pre-amp for the speakers, which are what those Bose assemblies are all about. As you've proved, the Bose radio / amp system cannot power a speaker by itself. The capacitors on the Bose system PC boards dry out over the years, and this is the main cause for failing speaker systems. I had all 4 speaker PC boards rebuilt over a number of years for the same issues on my '84 Vette.
