How to clean 95 t-bird engine?

Is there anything i need to cover in the engine before I start to clean it? Is there a right and wrong way to clean an engine Water verses arosol cans?

get a can of engine brite from an auto parts store. Let the engine cool off, spray it down with engine brite, then hose it off. Just avoid getting your alternator wet! ALSO...if you have an intake, try to keep the chemicals and water off of it. It should be cleaned using separate chemicals and dried before the motor is started!
