Toyota Camry Stalling

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2006 Toyota Camry. It randomly stalls at stoplights if I have any
type of air on (heat or a/c). I brought it to the mechanic a few times, but they
can't figure it out-- especially since they drove it around and didn't have a
problem. I have just been going without air, but since it's approaching
winter in Minnesota, I will need the heat. Should I try cleaning my IAC? Or
any suggestions?

Need to know what Engine is in this vehicle...and...Mileage.
OK... this vehicle has a Computer controlled throttle Body...so one must be very careful when doing any "cleaning". I do not think this Engine has a separate IAC to clean. This service is really not for the DIY because the process involves a reset/idle learn procedure. A SCAN TOOL performs this relearn very nicely. A Manual Relearn/reset is more involved. So...having said all that....my suggestion is to find a mechanic who has the Scan Tool to perform this procedure correctly. You might consider a Google research of your Make/Model/Year for a video describing this procedure. "Throttle Body Cleaning Reset Relearn" BTW...are there any warning lights ON or Flashing?

No warning lights or flashing. Sometimes it feels like it's struggling with the air on. Thanks - super helpful as I'm not very experienced with cars and was going to try and clean it this weekend. I probably would have screwed something up. I'll research mechanics.
coco...did you ever resolve the issue with this vehicle?

Hi Tony! I had the throttle body cleaned and the heat seems to be working better, but just this morning it stalled again and smelled like burning. :-(
Ok...I would be inclined to take this vehicle back to your Mechanic for another look see. Ask them to look up Toyota Service Bulletins for your make model year. There might be a fix for this issue that Toyota has recognized as a common problem. A Heating System that smells bad is one which needs service...or...may be leaking. A vehicle which runs rough or stalls when the HVAC is on....has a Computer related problem.....IF the Throttle Body was cleaned properly. Complicating this issue is ...it appears to be an intermittent problem. Hopefully, your Mechanic will take the time and effort needed to diagnose this issue and effect the proper repair. The answer may very well be in those Service Bulletins. If he does not have access to Factory service Bulletins...find another Mechanic who does.
coco....any resolution to the problem with this vehicle?

Hi Tony, not yet, we haven't had a chance to bring it in again. I'll let you know. Thanks for checking in
